Expert Analysis

Strategic Overview

Gladius (OP14-062) is a disruptive "landmine" for the Purple Donquixote archetype. He is designed to punish the opponent for removing him or to force awkward trades. His [On K.O.] effect allows you to return 1 DON!! card to clear or rest a character with 6000 power or less, which covers almost every mid-range attacker and blocker in the game.

As a 3-cost character, Gladius is an excellent early-game presence. Opponents are often hesitant to K.O. him during their turn because the resulting effect could rest their next attacker or K.O. a searcher they just played. This psychological pressure creates a "protection field" around your life total and other characters.

Key Strategic Synergies

  • Vergo (OP14-061): Vergo can reduce high-power targets down into Gladius's 6000 range, making his revenge effect much more lethal.
  • Doflamingo (OP14-060): Use the Leader effect to redirect an attack to Gladius if you actually want him to be K.O.'d to trigger his removal effect.
  • Sugar (OP14-063): Sugar ensures you have the DON!! count to absorb the -1 penalty from Gladius without falling behind.

Pro Strategy Tip: Gladius is at his best when the opponent has 1-2 attackers left. If they K.O. him, use the effect to rest their final attacker, ending their turn and saving your life total.
